I'm a data & AI engineer and business builder with 7+ years delivering enterprise data platforms across the Americas and the Nordics. I design the data systems, AI-assisted tooling, and the e-commerce and international-trade operations that run on them — usually with Python somewhere underneath.
01 — About
I'm Carlos Yalta Vargas — a data & AI engineer who also works the commercial side of the table. Most people pick one lane; across 7+ years I've worked both — delivering enterprise data for clients in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the Nordics — and the combination is the point. I can architect the data platform and structure the business that runs on it.
On the technical side I build resilient data pipelines, well-modeled databases, and the analysis and AI tooling that turn them into something useful. On the business side I develop new ventures, design e-commerce operations, and run international-trade flows. Project management is the through-line that keeps both moving in the same direction.
In practice that has meant standing up Databricks AI-model serving endpoints, working shoulder-to-shoulder with founders as a startup's first data hire — building the Gold-ETF price indices and monitoring that the business ran on — and leading master-data operations for enterprise clients across three continents.

My work splits into two threads. They're stronger together: the data side makes better decisions possible, and the business side gives them somewhere to land.
I turn messy, raw sources into data products you can trust — then layer AI and automation on top to make them faster to use. Pipelines, models, analysis, and the tooling that ties them together.

A web app that syncs the World Bank Indicators catalogue into PostgreSQL and serves a dashboard to browse, query, and download global development data.
An international-trade consultancy connecting Peruvian businesses and consumers with Chinese manufacturers — sourcing, import/export logistics, and custom business & leisure travel packages.
A Peruvian direct-to-consumer e-commerce store bringing products from China to your door — built on WordPress + WooCommerce, with local delivery in Piura and Yape/Plin payments.
